My dearest blogging friend Moksha of the Happy Panda blog, recently shared a post entitled, “5 More Quirks of Mine.” Her quirks are as unique and hysterical and relatable as she is, and I pretty much relate to all of them. And in this post, Moksha also invited some of her blogging friends to share their quirks as well. I feel honored to be included in this blogging friend group, and also excited to share! Because, I truly do love talking about myself. So, Imma get right into this and share with you 5 quirky traits of mine. Like Moksha, I have way more than 5, but here are the 5 that I came up with for today.
1. I’M QUIRKY WITH MY TEA
I don’t know why, but I have this fear of tea bag explosion. I’m always worried that when I pour scalding hot water on a tea bag, that the bag will explode. And if said bag explodes, I will then have to deal with tiny pieces of loose tea leaves floating around in my tea water. Unacceptable. So, instead of pouring the hot water over the tea bag, I pour hot water into an empty mug. And then I gently add the tea bag to the hot water. I don’t even know if my irrational fear of tea bag explosion is even possible. But this fear is strong enough to make me quirky with my tea.
2. I’M QUIRKY WHEN I EAT A PLATE OF FOOD
One of my quirky traits that I’ve had for my entire life has to do with the way I eat. For whatever reason, I always, always, always, leave just one bite of food left on my plate. I could be starving. And I could love every single bit of the meal. But I still need to leave one last bite of a sandwich, one forkful of roasted veggies, or one morsel of meat. I don’t even realize I’m doing it. And I never realized it was a thing until my partner pointed it out one day. I still can’t explain it, so I just have to chalk it up to a quirky trait.
3. I CAN’T DEAL WITH FLEA AND FARMER’S MARKETS
Maybe it’s all the hustle and bustle that gets to me. Or, maybe it’s because I get overwhelmed by how many beautiful choices are offered at a farmer’s market. I don’t know what it is, but I get a lot of anxiety when I enter into a flea or farmer’s market. Flea markets have a bit of a different vibe than farmer’s markets for me. But they are equally overwhelming, and I even start to feel faint when I’m walking through them. I can go for like maybe five minutes, and then it’s like, “Get me out of here now.”
I also know that I seem like the kind of person who would LOVE flea and farmer’s markets because I love healthy, fresh, and local food. And I love artsy and boho vibes that are typically found in flea markets. But I just can’t handle the energy of this shopping format, so I try to stay away.
4. I DO VAG CHECKS IN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE
Sorry, this one is so TMI, but it’s also a super quirky trait and I can’t help but share. Since I’m an anal-retentive Virgo, I’m always very obsessed with my health and cleanliness. I want everything ship shape at all times, and whenever it’s not, I feel unsettled. So, on occasion, I’ve been known to perform a vag check on myself, regardless if others are around. Okay, let me be clear, I don’t do this around strangers, unless I can be discreet. But I definitely do vag checks in front of my partner, my sister, and some of my other family members and close friends.
/ vaj · chek /
The act of discreetly looking down the front of one’s pants to check the status of one’s vagina situation. Frequently occurring during a woman’s menstrual period, a vag check aids women in determining whether or not they need to use the bathroom immediately, or if they have some time. A vag check is comparable to a parent checking a baby’s diaper to see if it need’s changing.
“Honey, can you spot me so I can do a quick vag check behind the car before we go on our hike?”
5. I LOVE DRINKING ORANGE JUICE WITH PRETZELS AND DONUTS
I have loved orange juice since birth. Early mornings before day care, I can recall drinking three full glasses of orange juice with my breakfast. I just couldn’t get enough of it. And although I have outgrown that a bit, I still love my OJ. I drink it in moderation and really only drink swigs of it at a time (never a full glass any more). But I love and need OJ when I’m eating pretzels or other salty snacks like potato chips. I also ALWAYS drink orange juice with donuts. And I also always thought this was normal, and could never understand why people were horrified by this habit. Apparently, most people drink milk with donuts (barf). And who knows what people drink with pretzels, but I guess it’s not orange juice?
However, can I just say that you shouldn’t knock it until you try it. My partner teased me for so long about this. Until recently he gave it a try when we were on the couch together, snacking on pretzels. And now, he pretty much drinks orange juice with me whenever we’re eating salty snacks. Yup! Give it a try!!!
Also, my best friend also drinks OJ with pretzels and has been doing this for his entire life. Up until we discovered this about one another, we each thought we were individual freaks. But nope, instead, we are OJ soul mates.
I’m usually a very neat and clean person. But when I’m on vacation, IDGAF!!!!
